Jose Sotelo

Jose Sotelo Yamasaki is a San Antonio based painter, screenprinter, and illustrator. He has garnered a national following as the owner and operator of El Fin, an exclusive online gallery showcasing the vibrant artwork that has made San Antonio a cultural mecca. His work is heavily influenced by Mesoamerican design, Mexican folk art, and Japanese Zen art. In this way, Jose's creations pay homage to his mixed ancestries. His notable solo and group exhibitions include "Nueva Generación" (curated by Alex Rubio), "How we Remember and How we Survive" (Self Help Graphics, Los Angeles), "Lost and Found" (Cultural Commons Gallery), "Entre la Sombra" (Cultural Commons Gallery), "Dreams Are For Those Who Sleep" (Provenance Gallery), "SATX/MX" (Centro de Artes), "Microevolutionary Rebirth" (Studio Fantomas), "So Long Ago" (Silkworm Gallery), among others. Jeffery Spence

Having now been in the music business for 43 years, Jeffery Allen Spence began his professional career at the age of 15 playing in successful jazz trios, serving as pianist in the Bill Causey Orchestra (Shreveport LA) and big band arranger for the Louisiana pageant system.  During his high school years he was music director for numerous theatrical productions (i.e. Oklahoma) and leading his own jazz/rock performance groups. After high school, he studied music, languages and theology at 6 different universities which included jazz studies programs at Loyola University New Orleans and University of New Orleans, where he studied piano under Ellis Marsalis. In the late 70's Jeffery toured the world with a Christian touring band from Oral Robers University, Living Sound. The stint included playing such high profile gigs at Shea Stadium (40,000 ppl) and European events. During the 80's Jeffery acted as minister of music for several churches in the souther United States, facilitating choirs, orchestras and theatrical productions as well as piano conductor for Fiesta Texas (San Antonia, Gaylord Entertainment). He has performed with such artists as Brook Benton, Jimmy Witherspoon, Marva Wright, Brian Blade and has opened for such groups as Spyro Gyra and the Neville Brothers. He also orchestrated for Miss America and Cheryll Pruitt Blackwood, as well as doing pianist duties for the traveling Broadway cast of AIN'T MISBEHAVIN' (Strands Theatre). After establishing his show on Bourbon Street, New Orleans, Jeff did his first recording, "ROCKING LOUSIANA MAN" for Rabadash Records in New Orleans. He was later picked up by BMG Europe. This success prompted many European and Canadian tours. Having honed his musical and comedic skills on Bourbon Street, Jeffery began entertaining thousands of people on cruise ships and resorts around the world. He also performed his musical comedy show for over 20 years at the Hilton Palacio Del Rio on the Riverwalk in San Antonio, Texas. In the last 10 years, Jeffery's focus has been on Personal Empowerment and Recovery related to entertainment events. His newly recorded CDs include PIANO CALM (Relaxation CD) and POSITIVELY SWING!, of which a multi-media show integrating Positivity and Swing music has been create. While serving as minister of music at Unity of San Antonio, Jeffery opened GRATITUDE ROAD RECORDING STUDIOS, where he produces CD projects and empowerment oriented television programming. Jeffery is currently producing his original song CD entitled, GRATITUDES, presenting his Gratitude Science based on his corporate seminar, GREAT GOBS OF GRATITUDE. Jeffery hosts EMPOWERMENT TODAY and RECOVERY EMPOWERMENT TONIGHT.

Last played with Psuedo Buddha (3 months in Fat City CD), 2003-2005. Artist statement: My varied life experiences and observations have provided me with an ongoing source of subject matter. Which I interpret into art pieces with my skewed perspective. My intent is to engage, challenge, present the viewer with narratives to consider, reconsider, ponder or discard from their perspective. While I can appreciate art for art's sake, I prefer to document, comment and create art that reflects on the world as I encounter and perceive it.

Currently residing in San Antonio, Texas, where she has a studio  an work as a commissioned semi-realistic Artists. She also illustrates books and enjoys teaching art to children.   Malena bold colors in her art reflects her diversity and multicultural backgrounds. It is important to her to transmits through her art emotional reactions feelings through images and color.

Aquila Sunrise

Currently stationed in San Antonio, Aquila was born and raised in Slovakia. He has been traveling the world for the last 8 years, mostly sustained by playing music. On the streets, trains, bars, restaurants, markets, festivals, gatherings, retreats and social media. Meeting and learning from beings of various cultures and ways of life, he has been adding to his repertoire, infusing his style with the spirit of the people from all over. The main mission has become cocreating a world of free self-expression and cooperative communication. He's been trying to contribute to this by holding workshops on communication, mixing elements of Authentic Relating and Non-violent Communication movements; and by playing soulful and heartfelt music of varying moods, using voice, guitar, bass, flute, didgeridoo, handpan and percussion, inviting people to consciously feel and express, to open their voice, to move their body, to share creative joy.

I am a material artist whose sculptures, tableaux, and installations are centered around a study of scientific reason and the power of belief. I mine and explore the properties and functionality of materials to solve design problems, formal aesthetics, and conceptual stances. My interest in materials as it pertains to science, exploration of process and duration, chance and unpredictability stem from my training and education in the ceramic discipline. This methodology is the root in all conceptual explorations, where projects begin with observations of natural phenomena and then distill into concepts that can be expressed in the built environment using material properties to convey a deeper meaning. Observations then lead to research and in-depth material experiments to develop concepts. My studio often resembles a science lab where I explore and test material interactions with form. This accumulation of experimental knowledge forms a visual library in my studio, and I use this progression in completing a project.

I am a San Antonio native and current resident artist. Starting photography in 2010, I quickly grew to love personality and emotion in photography. I attended Alamo Community College District focusing on learning about the arts, but I quickly outgrew the program. So, I ended up traveling around the country to learn from other photographers. Since then, I've primarily focused on wedding documentary photography. I have been recognized as an innovator in the San Antonio Wedding industry. Most recently, I won Most Emotive Wedding Photographer for 2021 by the Global Wedding Awards. However, I am a well-rounded photographer and have provided commercial images for companies such as American Heart Association, Habitat for Humanity, UT Health and Science, CPS Energy, Planned Parenthood, San Antonio Zoo, ACCD, etc. I am continually learning as an artist and creator. I have also taught on many occasions.

Singer-songwriter Aaron Taylor is an up and coming R&B/Soul artist.  As an avid lover of music, the versatility of his style allows him to move seamlessly through several genres. A son of San Antonio, Aaron began singing on platforms throughout the city at the age of 16 winning several competitions and awards as well as performing on stage with Ms. Diana Ross.  He is a graduate of the elite North East School of the Arts and received training from the world renowned Berklee College of Music in Boston.  With solid roots in the church and as a ''baby of the 90's", some of his role models include , Stevie Wonder, Al Green , and Lalah Hathaway  . Meet The Band! Gutarist - Ronnie Barbera Drummer - Chale Castillo Lead Vocalist - Becca Brooks Keyboardist - Gina Barbera Chale has been playing the drums for over 53 years! Chale's professional career spans 4 decades of playing with the best musicians across the great state of Texas. His most profound recognition is receiving a Grammy nomination playing with one of the greatest Tejano artist Little Joe y La Familia in 2000. Chale reunited on stage with long time band member, Ronnie Barbera, guitarist. They were original members of the band, Ragz from the 1970's. Ragz opened shows for Sister Sledge, Dr Hook, Samantha Sang, Santa Esmeralda to name a few. The single "Get On Down" with Ronnie as the lead vocalist is still played at the discotheques in France. They reunited as a band at the Laredo Legends of Rock Concert in Dec. 2019. The fire was rekindled, and a new band was born. Recording artist Becca Brooks brings amazing vocals to the band as well as the looks.The audio on our website and Facebook page was captured in a live performance. What you hear is what you get.

Gary & Cathy are a singer/songwriter duo from San Antonio, Texas, who play original material and covers primarily in the Country Western and Folk traditions. Cover songs include music by Guy Clark, Townes Van Zandt, Kris Kristofferson, Larry Joe Taylor and other easy feeling artists. Original material includes music written by Gary such as Seabrook By The Bay (a traditional country music feel), Springtime in Texas (a Bob Wills swing feel), Starlight In Your Eyes (a Patsy Cline feel) and This Song's For You (a jazzy feel). Cathy has written songs such as Window To Nowhere (a sweet ballad about a young girl's room), and The Deal (a ballad about chance meetings). Gary is originally from San Antonio and it's diverse culture is an influence on his music. Cathy is from West Virginia and brings a country/blue grass background to her music. Together Gary and Cathy combine for exceptional harmonies and interesting personal stories about life. Gary & Cathy have been performing together for about 8 years and have played in such a diverse range as venues such as La Kiva and the High Sierra in Terlingua, Texas and the Cactus Festival in Devine, Texas and the Pig Pen in San Antonio in addition to appearances at venues in Central and South Texas.

The first puppet show I remember was at FSU by a touring puppet troupe. The puppets featured were giant blacklight dinosaurs and I loved it. I became fascinated with puppetry and creature effects. I first started dabbling with puppets in my local church. I started attending workshops and classes on puppetry, to hone my skills. I attended college in Orlando at VCC where I pursued digital media. The school required a heavy load of theatre and film classes for the degree so it was nice to get a rounding of the subjects. While attending school I was delighted to work The City of Orlando Puppet Troupe. The troupe taught me a wide range puppetry forms and techniques. The puppet troupe would also bring puppeteers from the area and around the country to perform at schools. I was able to meet and learn from them as well as work in schools and HeadStart centers teaching puppetry and performing. The troupe also had me create theatrical performances and do voiceovers and perform for local tv productions. The knowledge I gained there has been invaluable. I learned how to start building puppets from Stan Winston School of Character Arts and The Puppet Project and developed a love for cable puppets. Since then, I have started a "Crosstitch Productions" in an effort to create puppet shows that teach educate and inspire. I am currently trying to set up workshops in an effort to pass on what I have learned and to encourage others in their pursuit of puppetry and the arts.

I'm a 20 year old artist. Not just with paint but poetry, music, and more. I'm not just an artist because its my passion or for money. Painting is my passion, but my art is more about healing people. I want my paintings to bring peace and healing to people across the world. I want to change the way people see art. Not just paint on a canvas. For people who have anxiety to look and feel peace. Or for depressed people to look at my art and feel comfort. Art is a lot of people's passion . But what makes my art so special is that it's not just for me to express myself. But for me to help others express themselves. When they can't quite put their emotions into words. Something for them to relate to and know they are not alone. That's why I also put bible verses and positive words on the back of all my art. With my art I want to make the world a better place, spread positivity, and love.

I am a San Antonio based photographer and print maker practicing a wide array of photographic techniques including modern digital photography, large format photography, lightning photography, landscape photography, Headshot Photography, and historical pre-film photographic methods dating to before the civil war such as cyanotype, albumen, salted paper, and gum bichromate. As a practicing organic chemist and an artist, I enjoy pursuing opportunities to merge my passions for chemistry and photography. As a Research Scientist in drug discovery, I work with a team of medicinal chemists discovering and developing new drugs using the art of organic chemistry. With this background, I have a natural affinity to these pre-digital handmade processes where the final images result entirely from chemistry. If I was asked to describe my focus as an artist and a photographer, I would say that I strive to produce works that are unique, authentic, and extremely diverse. As for uniqueness, my favorite compositions, such as Case Rio Prism are the result of the age-old methods of patience and luck mixed with a little bit of skill to know exactly when to trip the shutter to capture magic moments that are impossible to reproduce. I am a member at the River Art Gallery in the La Villita Historic Arts Village where you can find me and my art on second Sundays. I have also been a member and past president of the ViewFinders Photography Club.

Alilscribble is run by yours truly, Alannah Tiller. I'm a San Antonio based multidisciplinary artist and academic. I have a Bachelors in Art History from Texas State University as well as a Masters of Museum Studies from The University of Oklahoma.  My work mostly draws from pop culture and imagery I see online - it is a response to the people and objects in my everyday life that stimulate some sort of response. Sometimes abstracting, sometimes simplifying. Ultimately, I look to find an alternative view of these everyday objects and people. Through the use of bold imagery I attempt to amplify these themes using color, form and crisp line work. Why Alilscribble? Well, I've incessantly scribbled on the sides of my notes for class and in journals my entire life. I never considered what I did, "art." I wish I had leaned into it earlier, however it wasn't until I took a break from my corporate job after graduating with my MA that I really dove in. I'm still doing the same old scribbles, except maybe a bit more refined now with better tools. But it all started with a lil scribble. Also, my name isn't Ali haha, I get that a lot.

I have been a mover, shaker and kicker ever since I was in the womb. I came out kicking, punching and by the time I was toddler, I was jumping out of my crib. My mother shares with me that I have always danced. I am a mid-forties women with 25 years in the field of dance as it pertains to teaching, choreography, adjudicating, & preserving cultural heritage. My first dance studies began in my hometown of Laredo, Texas, a "border town". This means, I was to learn one thing in a dance studio and another in the kitchen with my abuela and family. The fundamentals I learned at Laredo All American Dance Studio launched me into, Kilgore College Rangerettes, Southwest Texas State University, MA Dance, San Antonio Spurs Silver Dancer, former owner of La Danza Studio, and evolving into a dance educator, choreographer, adjudicator. Most recently, I have been practicing with traditional dance forms representing the danzantes of Kapulli Ayolopaktzin. Current teaching residencies include, Urban 15 and San Antonio Ballet School. Recent collaborations and studies with San Antonio Dance Fringe and Dancing Earth of New Mexico under the direction of Rulan Tangen.

Hello my name is Jesse Torres. I am a canvas artist who is on disability due to back injuries from a car accident a few years ago. I was inspired by local artists when hosting an event that promoted local small business in the area. I had always enjoyed art since I was a small child and this opportunity led me to pursue it. I have displayed my artwork in a few local galleries as well as been published in two local magazines and one book. My artwork flows creatively when I paint about my childhood growing up with little to no money. My art pieces depict memories backyard bbques riding my bike just before the street lights came on. Although I do paint in all different mediums and all types of art, my favorite are those about my city, my culture and my family.

Throughout my career I have used recycled materials--from found video footage to dismantling and using every single part of a broken-down truck, including the gas. ("Pirate" Cindy, 1998). During Covid isolation I revisited a series of paintings I had begun in the mid nineties shown in New York galleries. This recent "Good Will Combine Series" is on repurposed clothing.  "Combine Painting", is a term coined in the 1950s by Robert Rauschenberg consisting of three-dimensional objects integrated into his paintings. I was born in Alamogordo, New Mexico, received my BFA from Cornell University and was a forerunner of the Williamsburg art scene in the early eighties.  I obtained an MFA degree from the University of California, San Diego, where I studied under Eleanor Antin and Allan Kaprow. I taught at Washington University in Saint Louis, Hamilton College, The New York Studio School in New York and was a visiting artist at the Savannah College of Art and Design.  I currently split my time between maintaining a studio in Branford, CT and in San Antonio, TX. I have exhibited nationally and have had numerous one-person exhibitions including the New Museum Of Contemporary Art in New York, and the Mykonos Biennale in Greece.  I also am a social activist and use my artistic skill in support of racial, gender, housing equality, animal rights and awareness of climate issues.  I have created many protest installations and happenings in community throughout the country.

As an artist, my goal is to engage the viewer, regardless of the medium, short films, music videos, documentaries, photography or song writing. If I can convey an emotion through my art and connect to just one person then I have achieved my goal. I can only strive for creative freedom and hope that I can communicate my vision with other people. The most rewarding aspect of my art is to develop a bond and interaction between myself and other artists to convey our creative vision to the community. Creativity is absolute freedom of expression and infinitely abundant to anyone who chooses to express themselves. It is also one of the simplest solutions for bridging inequality and diversity throughout our communities and neighborhoods.

Hello, I am Wilson Tran and I have a fascination for photorealism. I discovered my passion for drawing during my later years of high school. How photorealism became so influential in my art is that I love to perfect and understand the art style. The technique, skill, and time that goes to a photorealistic drawing is astonishing. I love to take my time on my pieces even if it takes weeks or months. Starting with a blank sheet paper and then making it into something so life-like makes it feel so satisfying and rewarding. I have been doing drawings out of graphite because I believe it is the best way to practice photorealism. The medium that I work with is so enjoyable but yet punishing. The richness in values and the details that it can provide when mastered is the reason I use graphite.

Cut paper has been used across the ages by many people for many purposes.   Examples range from decorations as solace for mourners, to love tokens suggesting the refinement and devotion of the sender. My work in paper evolved from a love of drawing and an awe of the traditional Mexican and Chinese art of paper cutting.  My drawings now serve as templates which are destroyed in the process of producing cut work.  I am exploring the translation of cut paper into more permanent materials such as metal, suede and multi-colored stencils.  The scale of my work varies from 1" paper cuts to 18 foot high window panels. I enjoy the juxtaposition of folk decorations with my own interpretations, contrasting the decorative with the contemplative.  Subtle gradations of light and shadow are almost impossible to achieve in cut paper, which epitomizes perfectly the duality of positive and negative space, both graphically and literally.  This challenges the artist to rely on graphic design and composition for the success of the work. Cut into a single sheet, paper images rely on a web of connectors to hold implied lines and shapes in place.  Connectors may be hidden in the imagery or made to stand apart, as in a grid or field that holds the imagery in place.  In some of my work, the elaborate shadow cast by the paper cut is the primary art work created through the interplay of light upon the piece. My works are cut with knives, hammer and chisel, scissors and laser.

Jonathan Treviño (b.1989) earned a BFA with Honors in Photography from Parsons The New School for Design's Art, Media & Technology program in 2013 while concurrently studying Jewelry Design at the Fashion Institute of Technology, working as a fashion photography assistant for clients ranging from VOGUE, Dazed Magazine, CLASH, and Sephora before working as Studio Manager, Producer, and Photographer for clients such as NIKE, Victory Journal, Highsnobiety, and Juxtapoz for Art Basel Miami. Trevino's multi-disciplinary artworks function as spiritual investigations into the construction of American identity and the absurdity of the quest for self-perfection represented in glamour and luxury as extensions of colonial religious values and notions of The New in art. Through works ranging from video installation, performance, found object sculptures, illustration, and portrait photography, Treviño uses contemporary iconography and art history to analyze the generational effects of Western religion, philosophy, and law upon spiritual family relationships, particularly between parents, children, and LGBT individuals in the city of San Antonio, while meditating on Earth matter as memetic sensory pathways toward understanding the numinous reveries and longings of proletariat life and toward accessing ancestral memories about the worlds we used to live in; spiritual experiences which may reveal themselves to us in solitude, in sleep, through the screen, and in the city after dark.
